History:
First and foremost, astrology is not a natural science like astronomy. Rather, it is a philosophical system developed over several millennia, based on empirical observations and experiences. The foundations of astrology are based on symbolism and synchronicity - however, there are clearly recognizable correlations with planetary and terrestrial phenomena. If you want to learn more about the fascinating history of astrology, there are great articles on Astro-Wikipedia on this topic.
Development:
Personal astrology made its way into the media world no later than the beginning of the 20th century, and the first "horoscopes" appeared in newspapers and magazines. Perhaps the idea was to make this wonderful symbolic language more accessible to people, but unfortunately, it led to a completely distorted image of astrology. A horoscope is not simply a zodiac sign (the zodiac sign where the Sun is at birth), but it consists of at least ten planetary factors as well as other calculated points. Thanks to the advancement of transpersonal psychology, astrology gained importance from the mid-20th century onwards and was perceived in a more differentiated view. Here, it was not least the Swiss psychologist C.G. Jung, who, thanks to his enthusiasm for symbolic languages, made a significant contribution to the "respectability" of astrology.
